My ex had a cat that disappeared in Akron, OH and made her way back to Toledo in a few months.

Thank you. What’s that approximate distance?

None of my pets ever were far from home.  However, when I was young i had a collie who had a mind of her own.  If I took her for a walk in the woods and she decided it was time to go home, she went - all by herself (about a mile).  She just walked off and went home.  Sometimes I'd spend hours scouring the woods looking for her only to find she'd been home all the time.

I only have one pet, Baby the cat, who disappeared.  I still have her favorite toy which stays with me.  She is old now, I hope someone found her and took good care of her.

I've never abandoned one. I had to put my pupper down in January - cancer. She was 15, a good innings for a Staffy, but I still miss her.

Why do you assume abandonment might be involved?

I'm sorry to hear this.  I know how difficult it is to have to lose a beloved pet.  One of my sisters has had to do tht with two of hers and I miss them every time I enter her home.

I've had similar experiences with two of my cats.
Another died from a seizure while at a groomer's.
    I'm still missing them, yes.
