Should Trump accept a $400M plane from Qatar if he uses it as President and then transfers it to his presidential library foundation?

If we made Carter give up his peanut farm, he should have refused,  it was perfectly legal for him to own and operate his farm.

The plane is a gift to the DOJ not to Trump.

I have been corrected:  Carter did not sell his farm, he put it in a blind trust.  That's because he has ethics. This post was edited by Spunky at May 13, 2025 3:31 PM MDT

As if he did not know he owned a peanut farm and what it would be affected by...

Regardless Washington kept his business and so did other POTUSes....so Carter had not need to do anything with his peanut farm.

Didn't you understand when I said I had been corrected that he didn't have to sell his peanut farm?  So, what are you arguing about other than for the sake of argument?  Trump has not divested himself from his holdings nor has he put them in blind trusts.  He has been maniplating the market with hgis  his tarrifs on/tarrifs off, but I'm sure that's OK in your eyes because clearly, Trump can do no wrong. He does not need to divest from his properties and like the peanut farm a blind trust is a joke. Trump knows exactly what properties he/his businesses own. Most have his name on them.

It isn't just from his properties.  He has other businesses.  His entire presidency is a ploy to enrich himself and his family.  But you don't want to see that.  More's the pity.

It's interesting that his first foreign trip was to three countries where he does billions of dollars of business. But as his spokesperson and also the House Speaker point, he has been very transparent. Apparently, if you do it in the open, it is not unethical.

LOL ... he said he was going to be transparent.  What is bothersome (other than it flies in the face of the emolument clause), is that he's willing to do business with three countries that have reputedly been associated with terrorist organizations.  They aren't' our friends or allies.  What they have figured out is that thr more they stroke his ego, the more they can manipulate him.

No one made Carter sell his farm. He voluntarily put in a blind trust to avoid conflicts of interest. There is no obligation to do so, but most presidents considered it the right thing to do.

Spectrum News confirmed that, as of April 2, Trump’s new jet has been in a hanger at San Antonio International Airport, according to the flight tracking website puretrack.io.
I think that points out that Trump has already “gifted” himself a new jet without congress approval.

I’m also wondering if it would be another security risk. The secrete service wouldn't be guarding a private persons plane - so someone could sneak into the hanger and sabotage it. Cheers and happy weekend!

Back when George W. bush was president the Chinese bought their new Air Force equivalent from the US. When they took delivery, they found 27 listening devices on board. China didn't accuse the US government and we said the devices were not up to US standards, there were two many of them and if we had done it, they wouldn't have been found. That said, it shows how a plane can get compromised and it's likely this gift has some extra features.

Can you imagine how much more sophisticated spy stuff is now compared to George Bush’s WH days. I bet with Wifi a spy ware program could jump from the jets computers to all the smart phones on the plane. I think the extra scary part is Trump thinks that people that like him - or want to do business with him - won’t do anything to harm him. So he might order the jet in the air ready or not. And the extra extra scary part is there are countries that will take advantage of Trump’s nieveness. Cheers and happy weekend!
