Do you take it personally when someone insults your political views, politicians you may support, or an entire political party?

The reason I ask is that some silly anti-Democrat memes disappeared from a discussion I started. While I can't know for sure what happened to them, I doubt the person who posted them had a change of heart and deleted them. While I didn't appreciate the memes, they represented the views of the poster and I don't see any reason they should have been moderated. If I don't defend views I disagree with, I would be giving up the right to my views. What are your thoughts?

I don't think I'm that thin-skinned.    The only memes I would find offensive are ones that might be sexually explicit or discriminate against a particular group, religion or race.  As for memes/comments being removed from here, this is nothing new.

I had an anti-Republican meme edited for a naughty word, but itvwas not removed, which I appreciated.  But some other comments were removed. It's confusing to know what's allowed. I think calling a political party stupid is not the same as calling a user stupid.

Sometimes, I think negatiity towards a particular political party and a person in that party become conflated.

Not at all, everyone has a right to their own opinion.

She's been doing that for a while, which is why I rarely contribute to the Mug anymore and never anything political. I've complained to JA but nothing gets done or even responded to.

I don’t take it personally. Being called “woke” or “liberal” doesn’t really bother me. Usually, it comes from people with pretty extreme political views, so it’s mostly a reflection of their own perspective.

I consider myself fairly middle-of-the-road, politically. Some of my views lean left, some lean right, and I've voted for 3 different political parties over the last 10 years (Conservative, Liberal and Labour). I try not to be too judgmental of others, except when it comes to those who are extremely intolerant or consistently show a lack of empathy. Having said that, I often feel a bit sorry for them, tbh! Stuck in an echo chamber that only amplifies negativity, can’t be a nice place, mentally.

I don't mind being called 'woke' or 'liberal' either because I am both. I vote Democrat because they support my priorities more than any other party. But that does not mean I wholeheartedly accept and will defend every word and act by every Democrat politician in the party. Nor does it mean that hatred for the other side is why I vote the way I do. My views came first, long before the current leadership.

I try not to take it personally, yes (and I usually succeed).
Not only with my political views, but with any other of the many times in my life I (and/or my views/thoughts) have been insulted, I try to pause, and then think, and then ask myself, "What might I learn from this?"
