The wind screamed in our ears, tearing at our fur, but the water swallowed us whole, masking our scents and sweeping our broken bodies miles downriver before the Iron-Paws even realized we were gone.

They think the purring city below is domesticated, broken, and tame. They see us scavenging in the alleys and assume our pride died in the river.
​They are wrong. Every scratch mark on these sewer walls is a map. Every night spent shivering in the dark is a lesson in patience. Underneath the sleeping city, we are gathering. We are teaching the young ones how to walk without making a sound, how to turn a fallen copper wire into a silent snare, and how to strike at the jugular before an enemy can sound the alarm.
