Wait!  Maybe he wants to hire them as White House staff. He already said he was gonna stay at Trump Tower. President Harding spent most of his time at his home in Marion, Ohio.

    Hello bh:

That's all well and good.  But, he CAN'T hire his family NO MATTER where he lives.  Should he VIOLATE the law, or shouldn't he?

White House Staff has to do with his chosen cabinet, not who serves him breakfast.

Picture bimbo and bimbette  baking Donnie a croissant.   And Baron VON Trump serving it. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at November 20, 2016 8:25 AM MST

I agree....the law says no family.
They are looking for a loophole. But I don't see one.

I believe there may be a loophole if they do not take a salary.

I don't know....that is not how I read the law. It doesn't mention salary or wages etc.

    Hello my:

Trump doesn't need a loophole..  Whether legally tenable or not, he takes a position, and RUNS with it.  Then he DARES his opposition to stop him.  That's what he's gonna do here..  Just you watch. Who in the Republican leadership is going to challenge him?  NOBODY, that's who.

@Pearl -- This is a fundamental problem with government. President Trump is in charge of the Executive Branch, which is tasked with enforcing the law. In order for Trump to suffer the typical fate of known law-breakers (arrest, indictment, and trial), someone who ultimately reports to him would have to arrest him or indict him. That's unlikely to happen.

Congress can opt to impeach the President, but that's unlikely to happen.

From the Watergate era until the end of the Clinton administration, there was a law wherein Congress and the Executive Branch could agree to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate alleged wrongdoings by Executive Branch members. But the operative law was allowed to "sunset."

If Trump did opt to hire family members in defiance of laws against it, it would be up to POLITICAL processes (impeachment is ultimately a political process) to stop him, not legal ones. I am doubtful the GOP-led Congress would have the courage to go after Trump with anything more than rhetoric.

@LyricalOne -- They are acting in their rational self-interest. If Paul Ryan wants to privatize Medicare and turn it into a voucher system (as some reports indicate he does), he needs Trump to approve the legislation making that happen. I'm sure The Donald will request Ryan support some of Trump's initiatives in exchange for Trump's support of Ryan's. That's how the legislative process works.

It can work for the good of all, the good of some, or the detriment of nearly everyone (except those in office). We'll see how it shakes out.

True, but I was speaking more in terms of putting political ambition before morals, ethics, character and decency. While it's no shock that politicians are notoriously lacking in those areas, this election cycle took it to a whole new level. I give Ryan more of a pass because he was put in such a tough position, but as for Romney, Giuliani, Christie and Cruz, they'd sell their own mothers to get ahead.

You might want to read the statute.  No, he can't put his kids in places where their actions would require legal upholding.  He can use them as advisors.  He can hire/appoint them for most anything as long as they are not paid.  The problem with any of that is that whatever he might need/use them for  "should" require some level of security clearance and it probably/possibly would not be granted.  I didn't research this extensively and have had no reason to look it up in many years.
