Could endless questions about the same old BS politics be hampering people from wanting to use this site?

Follow up question.   Should people who want top blather about politics ad nauseam try and take it the Debate room?   At least once in awhile?

Do y'all really think you are making any difference speaking your mind when you're just boring people away with the nonstop questions about the same thing over and over again?  What's the point?

  • I do know of one person that newly joined, but mostly keeps away because so many questions are about politics.
As for myself, I keep away from those questions. Too boring for me.

  • I know a few of my peeps I came here with from another site last spring kinda left because they got sick of it and found it made the site seem one dimensional.  Shame because they all really liked it too and the staff.

  • Have you seen my questions?   This is the closest I have gotten to posting a thread about 'tics ever.

I personally don't mind it even though i find them droll, lame, not meant for actual discussion but to dictate a hardline stance, and uninspired.   Yet They don't drive me off.  Just sayin'.

I would answer more of them if they were real questions like

Why did you vote for ___ ? or Why didn't you vote for ___ ? or Why do you think Donald Trump won? or Why do you think Hillary Clinton lost? or What could [one or the other] have done to change your mind?

  • I kinda agree.  Many just don't seem to be any kind of questions to actually discuss issues or anything.  Just people trying to make passive-aggressive stabs and digs. Which if it's so much and it doesn't encourage more people to come on?  What's the point of making the stabs and digs if no one is there to read it?
Sometimes you got to slow your troll is all.

All you have to do is not answer them, but I still understand what you are saying. It does get old pretty damn fast.

Maybe, but like OS said, "Be the change." There's more than one way to take that... other forms of questions being asked will drown those out so they're not so noticeable. I don't think this is a "you" individual issue though- you're pretty active. I think, rather than shushing or sending people away to dark corners, we'd be better if more people asked.

    You hear me, people? :o

I command thee to go ask 10 questions that are not about politics!

Did it work? Hey, why are you still reading this? Don't you have questions to ask or something?

  • Looking back on it this question may seem a bit like trying to stir the pot or down putting when  it wasn't really meant either way at all.  Bad execution on my part.

There is no point. Only free speech as allowed by the site. No rule has been broken but take conciliation in that this too shall pass.

  • Definitely. I know several people who came across here when I did, ran into multiple Trump rants and have not been back. I keep away from those "questions" as much as possible.

Why is there a need to name her all the time? Is calling her out by name doing anything positive for you or others?

  • Thank you Sapph.  It's not exclusive to one person by any measure and names aren't needed anyways.

My point exactly. This is what will water out any discussion. Name calling is the first step killing a healthy discussion. They don't make any point any other than pointing fingers. That isn't a solution, and why I asked the commentator if it does any positive for them or others to name one person. Hmm.

I think it would be sad and it would be a bad precedent to chase people away just because their favorite topic is politics.

Then again lots of political questions chase other people away.

I just ignore most of them because the premise is usually my side is always right and the other side is always wrong.

  • I agree 100%.   The last thing I'm suggesting is to push or chase anyone away. Especially considering many, if not all of the people who prefer political topics have been here longer than I have.

Though I have seen one gloating over the perception that they prolly "have"chased some off.

Yes. I am tired of watching questions about president Trump. The guy won. Move on.
