I believe that some people do it to expose the child to reality/realities, others do it selfishly as a shield (I have a child with me; you can't do anything to me), and lastly, in conjunction with the shield concept, some people do it purposefully in the hope that something bad will happen to the child, thereby giving the opportunity to demonize one's opponent.

The third example I gave above was clearly illustrated just yesterday on the news when a woman was screaming at the camera that the police had pepper-sprayed protestors, and that there were children among them. She went on and on about how it just wasn't right to pepper-spray children. Ok, let's analyze this: 1) you intentionally attend a rally decrying the deadly and illegal use of force by police officers against innocent black men, 2) it's within days of another rally in which a man ambushed police officers, killing 5 of them and wounding 7 others, 3) common sense dictates that such a highly-charged issue has the possibility of confrontation, to include violence.
Question, lady: why did you take the child there in the first place? The police aren't at fault here, the person who took the child there is.

Ok. No there is no way my kids would be out there. I would be one of those Moms on the TV beating my kid as I dragged their butt home.

    Hello Some:

I dunno..  It COULD be said that WITHOUT the Tea Party, we MIGHT still be a colony..  That was a protest..  It mattered.  Where ya been?

    Hello again, Some:

I agree.  They don't always work..  But, some do.  That's reason enough to continue them..

The victim being the child, you're absolutely correct. The adult who dragged the child into a situation that carried the potential for violence is at fault. Using a child as a pawn is despicable.

With the modern-day technological advent of instantaneous broadcasting of practically any event, there are some people who attend protests with the express intent to provoke their opponents and or provoke the police, film it, and show carefully edited portions of it as propoganda for their own argument.
There are some people who go to protests carrying weapons that they plan to use against police officers. Many people who do that also wear bandanas or something similar over their faces so as not to be identified.

A protest in the year 2016 has differences that didn't exist in 1773.

Some others here hit on points I didn't consider, but nuttiness may be a factor for sure.

Yes. There were just too many variables outside a parent's control in that environment.  Thank you for your thoughtful answer.
