I started to learn the piano when I was about 9 years old, learned to play a part of Fur Elise, thought I was awesome and achieved my goal haha never went to another lesson.

  • I know what you mean. I started to learn to play the banjo but was lousy at it. I'm about as musical as a bucket full of pebbles.

Nope, and I regret it to this very day. I would have loved to be a great saxophone player.

I'm not even pro-Trump, and I've stated so before. I guess you took a selective reading course.

  • I played Trumpet when I was in grade school but when the Beatles came out? I changed to the drums and played them till I shipped out. I got pretty darn good and played for a few bands. Awww, the good old days!

  • I think you're the kind of person who would excel at anything. You seem to have the right mind-set for getting the best out of things.

Piano, violin, organ. Still regularly play the keyboards.

I have on occasion pinched the wife's fiddle...

  • I learned to play the piano. I'm a competent piano-player, but nothing special.

  • Nev, I think that to be a competent musician IS special. Well done.

I agree, especially the piano. I think it denotes talent.

  • Ask.com was a Q&A community that was my online home for 5 or 6 years. When it closed in June 2015 a lot of us found our way to Blurtit and then here. One of our regulars (forget his user name) also played classical guitar. I wondered if you were he. Clearly not. :)

They thought I was anemic and shouldn't play outdoors much.  So they forced me to take piano lessons for eight years.  I hated it.  I had loads of energy and ended up being an outdoors guy.  A few years ago I decided to try to play some of the classics my piano teachers said I wasn't ready for.  I learned to play Beethoven, Grieg, and Rachmaninoff by heart without the help (or hinderance) of any piano teachers.
