If we know that we're not going to change the other person's view, and vice versa, why do we argue?

In my case,
sometimes I see things that are so against common sense that it is almost like a sneeze. . . and before I know, im knee deep into an argument that was completely unnecessary. If only the other person had some sense. . . Of course. . .

How bout you?

I see it more of a way of solidifying our own views, tbh. It's like a religious debate between a Christian and an atheist. Both know they are not going to convert the other.

  • Exactly, exactly.
Don't you think there's an element or a morbid satisfaction in beating the other over the head with our arguments?
A desire to defeat the other guy.
Sort of like defeating an enemy?
    No?

Ego what else, physically one may accept a bruise but no one likes it if their ego is hurt;))

  • Yes yes yes
    Ego,
I have.to think more on this one but I see that true.
That definitely plays a role in my argumentizing. Not too much about being wrong, I don't mind that. I think I mind losing the argument more. Getting my little ego hurt.
    Thanks V. Great answer.
