How well do you know Sweden: What terror attack in Sweden did Trump have in mind? [alternative fact]

Category: Sweden.

Former Foreign Minister Carl Bildt (as a little bonus information, Conservative) made a tweet, maybe to reach out to Trump as it seems being how to reach him, next to very badly produced news coverage on Swedish immigration and crime statistics by FOX News. Smh.

For someone who complains about fake news, Donald sure spreads plenty of it, doesn't he?

Marvelous. Thanks sharing. It is incredible how much he absolutely has to fill coverage with his nonsense. Could we ignore him to death? I mean he lives by the attention. :-)

Sweden is rated as one of the best countries to live but the religious right people for whatever reason have been tying to falsely portray Sweden as an atheist infested socialist hell-hole.

I guess Trump's 'news' story is just something made up as the kind of thing he is aware that the kind of people that support him like to hear.

He tries making it a question about crime rate increasing and of cause all based on immigrants. It's no secret that most countries have their issues and obstacles with integrating every immigrant, however it doesn't support the alternative facts stated by right wing media sources in the USA. I have some time back showed the realities behind the numbers that made the same sources call Sweden rape capital of Europe. The Alt-Righter who raised the very biased question here didn't like, and told me to get outside to be raped. I'm lucky to say he isn't part of this community any longer. The video debunking that false claim is by the way still uploaded inside the video section. As for crime rates, they have been dropping in numbers since 2005. Hmm.

I remember some years back, our UK Daily Mail had a front-page leader stating so many thousand immigrants were awaiting trial for crime. I forget the number. Anyway, I worked out that given the number given as the total figure of those on remand for crime in the same article, it came to a tiny fraction of one percent. In other words, there were far more home-grown Brits awaiting trial than immigrants. Also, just because someone is on remand awaiting trial, it does not mean they will be found guilty. The presumption of innocence is the basis of the law, at least in all civilised and democratic societies.

A lot of Americans have a fear of socialism, and very few people there, right or left wing, have a clear idea of what it is. A democratic country, be it Sweden, the UK, or anywhere else, can't really become a full-scale socialist society, as what tends to happen is the left get elected for a few years, then the right get elected for the next few, so they balance each other out. They become mixed economies, with some state controlled institutions, and a majority of private businesses. I think you are probably right about Trump making it up. He probably doesn't care if it's factually correct, as long as it plays to the prejudices of his faithful.

  • It's perfectly understandable. Being an intelligent, educated, up-to-date man, President Trump is well aware of the possibility of alternative universes. The Fox News report that gave him the information was obviously reporting on another Sweden and another planet Earth.

How the heck did you lot (not you, SH) ever vote for such a moron?

To add on to this, how can someone even still keep defending him and his deeds?

  • The feedback we get on here indicates that his supporters have closed their minds to his lies and failure. They believe whatever he says and accept willingly his protests that the press are out to get him (by reporting his foul-ups). I've never before experienced such a high level of gullibility.

It's kinda scary how blind people can turn, and it explains way better how some of the worst despots in history have been able to decieve their people. Meh.

Didge, at one point, I had a discussion with a Trump supporter who claimed that the footage we see of him lying is doctored by the leftist media.  There is no talking to them.

  • I mentioned here the other day that our government-funded broadcaster (an organisation so conservative that they're known to the public as Aunty) no longer has a link to the US or America on their news site. Instead they have one to "Trump's America". It isn't the same place.

I still see the US & Canada on the BBC news website, Didge. Can you give me a link to what you saw? I know the Beeb has had plenty of criticism of Trump. Who hasn't, except those disturbingly uncritical supporters of his?

  • ABC not BBC.
    Here's the link: Trump's America

It's on the light blue line after "Just In, Australia, World"
and in case you missed it, here's a .jpg of the relevant bit:

and even that is very subdued compared to the masthead being displayed by the Washington Post this week:
