Do you prefer to use your own avatar or the answerMug default?

What are the advantages? What about the disadvantages of using the same as other people?

    I would rather use my own.

    It would allow me to set the mood more accurately. (and sometimes to make a point :)

  • That's true. I try to avoid one particular member's questions but I'm aware that I probably skip other people's as well since they also use the aM avatar.

  • Using default or provided avatars is easy but they're nowhere near as fun. I like to tell something about myself with the avatar I choose. It's similar to how a new business markets themselves to the public with a unique symbol and/or a slogan. I like that uniqueness.

  • I agree. I started using horns on chess.com when some Christians started a group for "like minded people". I asked if I could join and represent the the opposition but they banned me. So I grew horns on my avatar and chanted the name of my chess blog from "Dozy's Blog" to "Dozy's Inferno". I've been wearing them ever since. (The halo on the other half is definitely wishful thinking.)

  • Dozy's Inferno. I like it! One of my favorite wallpapers is a dragon perched on a pentagram talisman. I'd use it for that site just for fun and I'd be kicked from that group too and I am one the "like minded" individuals.

  • Originally I changed my background theme to orange flames with a cute little demon on it, but the site has been upgraded since then and that background no longer works there. She looked like this:

  • My own ..... I'm a very visual person and can remember people by avatars more so than usernames. Even if they change avi's often I'll remember their name once I associate them with a visual. I tend to overlook and ignore people with default avi's ...cos I do.

  • People should only use the default when they first join; using the default makes it confusing since there can be multiple people with the default.

    I've been using an avatar of my face since I joined :P

    I have two pictures, one is me and one is a stranger who I thought looked like me at an earlier age.

    My mother made the outfit you see here. It is the same outfit my oldest brother wore for his portrait. Back when it was normal to dress kids in hand-me-downs.
