    Yep.

South coast of England. There are some on the town's sea-front, hessian-wrapped in Winter to give them some protection from frost and cold East winds, and one quite large palm in a garden near mine.

BTW why is this in "Education"?

  • Absolutely yes. California is loaded with palm trees. A couple species are native. I won't live in a place that doesn't have palm trees, because it means the climate isn't warm enough for me :)

  • Sure do but they're not native to the area. Our council thought they might beautify the area and planted a dozen or so along the highway. They're not very attractive.

  • Of course, Nice Jugs, but as George Orwell almost pointed out, some are more beautiful than others. These don't rate at the high end of the beauty scale.

  • You don't have to persuade me. I love palm trees. But this is not a particularly attractive variety, they provide little shade, and are in an inappropriate location. They're native to South Australia and probably look better in their natural environment.

  • I just gave that pic the hard eye. I don't see a cartoon character there but, if you look closely at the one in the foreground, you can just about make out one of those Easter Island statues hiding under all those fronds.
