You have plenty of nervous energy. Some activities can help focus that energy into something productive. A hike in the woods, a computer game etc.

  • I'm in a similar position.

I have a bit of land which needs maintenance, a vegie garden and orchard - schedules dictated by season and weather.

But I'm also aiming to become a writer, and writing about five hours a day.

There's a great book, "Writing Without a Parachute," by Barbara Turner-Vasselago. I think she her advice is brilliant.

About a year ago, I had an accident in the which the ride-on mower bit a large chunk out of my bum.

After the doctor had stitched up the layers, she instructed me not to move for four weeks so it could heal properly.

Stuck immobile like that, I finally had my opportunity to write.

I found an underground mass of ore waiting for the alchemy of daylight.

Putting in the time made a huge difference.

Another book, "Writing Down the Bones," by Natalie Goldberg is also inspiring.

She writes anywhere: cafes, park benches, no limits, just carries her laptop wherever she goes.

The message from her is to find your own best place for writing. It becomes a familiar zone.

Arriving there kick starts the process.

One of the dangers, getting too sedentary. Physical exercise becomes even more essential.

I drive, and it's a commute of about 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
