Discussion»Questions»Music» I tend to call people flower a lot... a generation and Brit thing I think.. is there something you tend to call people, like mate? pal? etc
I try not to use cutsy names for adults because i dont like them used for me. But the kids i work with i use several names: dude, little man, girly, girlfriend, chick, sweety, babe, little dude, my friend, sweet heart.
I have noticed a trend in the work place of adults to call adult coworkers "young man" or "young lady". This invites a gob clap. The speaker appears to think it clever and amusing. It is condescending and vacuous. I have even encountered, "kiddo". To adults! God's wounds!
Yes, I you refer to me as "young man". Do you know the word, "rue"?
And speaking of driving... I was at the Renaissance Faire a few years ago and saw a Scot wearing a steering wheel where his sporran should be. So I sayth unto him, "Forsooth, painful that doth appear good sir." Quoth he, "Aye, tis drivin' me nuts."
