Think back to the last time you ate a food product past its expiration date, dos preguntas:

Uno) how did it taste, y 2) did you get sick?

  • Don't know about the labeling in the states but here is not a use by date... it's s best before  date... and they're in lies the difference... they are saying that it stays to deteriorate after that date as opposed to you can't eat it after that date... subtle but important ... and it depends on the product ... raw meat van go a few days... nuts and biscuits ..it just depends  on how bad you have the munchies :)

    (therein lies)
    (starts to)
    (raw meat can)
    (how badly)

Here in the U.S., both of those food label warning systems exist or have existed over the years.

You're going to hate me for this Randy but one time I made my husband a sandwich and I put expired mustard on it.  My hubby couldn't finish it and when I checked the jar of mustard it was a year after the date on the bottom.

Please, don't be silly; I already hate you, Livvie. You and your gang of conspirators have tried to jail me for loving tildes too much, you've wrongly accused me of fake killing my fake online ex-wife, the list goes on and on. What's an old moldy sandwich between enemies?  Grrrrrrrrrr!

Look!  I brought you a peace offering!  I made you a sandwich!

The other food in the refrigerator will miss him.  :-(  He's been in there longer than any of the other food items.

Thank you, Liv! That's so kind of you!  All is forgiven and I hope this is a new leaf being turned over in a friendship that will last forever . . . hey, wait, why does this mustard smell funny?

It doesn't smell funny!  Just eat it really fast.

Fine, I'll scrape it off for you.  Ow! It bit me!

  • Many times, but only if it's a few days past. I'll use milk after the date, I always sniff it fist just to make sure it hasn't gone over though.

A small part part of me just died. Milk, really?

That's the worst one to roll the dice on its expiration date, lol!  (Just kidding!)

  • It's just a sell by date.   If it doesn't smell off it's fine.

I've done it plenty of times and have never gotten sick. As long as it smells fine and doesn't have anything weird growing on it, it should still be good.

  • Most of the use "buy dates" are "best before dates" or "sell by dates".   It's just color and texture that is really what suffers.

Eat it foods past the date quite often.  Eggs  and cheese being the most frequent.   Eggs are fine for months after the "date" printed if they do not smell.
