Have you ever seen a crime in progress?

How did you react? If you'd had more time to think about it would you have done something differently?

  • Yes, I kept walking.
Yeah I'd probably do differently now.

  • It was probably the smart thing to do. I got myself into trouble one night by interfering. If a neighbour hadn't come along in his car at just that moment I'd have been in deep doo doo.

  • Yes...I've seen several.
Would I have done anything differently? Only once.  My friend and I were driving late at night and saw a woman getting dragged into a car by her boyfriend. She was screaming for help
We stopped and got her away. I wish we have beaten him to a pulp

  • I understand the sentiment. Well done, Sir Goat.

  • Thanks.  It was frightening for sure, but worse for her. I mean what I said. That happened when I was just 18. I wish we had taken that guy out. I'm pretty sure that girl most likely ended up going back to her BF (like most people do in abusive relationships). I can't help but think about what has happened with her

True, most do, at least for a while.  And had you beaten him to a pulp, deserving though it may have been, it likely would have been taken out on her.  I would bet, though, that you and your friend, and your kindness, have crossed her mind many times in the ensuing years.

  • Hi Dozy,
Des Moines like all large cities has some crime areas...and being rather dumb I don't pay any attention to that kind of thing, so was there shopping one day...
The crime was not in progress, it was over with and the police were chasing the fellow. I simply got in my car and stayed parked until things seemed to quiet down, then I drove and asked how I should pass through their barricades to go back home.

I also made a point, as I do now whenever possible, to thank the police for the difficult and dangerous work they do..

  • That was well done. I know some cops are over the top, and some are dishonest, but I'd hate to live in a society without them. They do a great job and, yes, it can be very dangerous.,

  • That's just so mean. There's a special place in Hell for people who steal Easter eggs.

Well ...that's ok by me......I like nice warm places where you're looked after by people that don't write books that promote violence to non believers......

And I didn't steal the Easter egg........I just put it some safe so as it wouldn't roll away and to make sure that the big dog that we don't have yet eats it.........chocolate is poisonous to dogs and I was just preventing it from getting ill or something.......:)p

Yep, and have committed a few myself.  How I handled things depended upon who was doing the committing and whether I felt it was truly criminal.

  • Hmm. I cheated on my tax return occasionally. I guess I'm a criminal too. :(
