Can you imagine what you would be like if you were born without emotions? Would it bother you?

  • Hmm, I don't know how I feel about that. There are emotions I could definitely do without, like anger or depression. However, how do you experience the emotional high of excitement and happiness if you don't know what it's like to feel depressed or angry?

I'd really enjoy that sometimes. I CONSTANTLY try to make people appeased and happy... I am a people pleaser and it really has taken a toll on my emotional being. I think others would not be so touchy and SO offended by everything if we didn't have emotion (or limited emotion)... I think most would have less ego perhaps. I know I'd never not want to have joy though, or love... I'm just starting to glimpse what that may feel like, or what true joy could feel like, and THAT I think everyone would benefit from in life. Great question today.

  • That' what transhumanism is about.
Emotions are mostly lies but they are what makes us human.

If I were born without emotions, I wouldn't feel anything about that.

  • Hi Element 99,
I have read that Leonard Nimoy, in the intensity of filming STAR TREK, would just remain in character over weekends and days off with family...and the impact on his personal life was negative.

For myself, I am intrigued by the possibility there is a richer experience of life when we humankind can go deeper than the emotions...but I am thinking you prolly must fully engage the emotions first...

So yes, it would bother me to be born without emotions.

There are two situations we call emotions. Fear and depression are chemical responses, but most things that we call emotions are behaviors that have to be learned. You can alter a person's emotions by putting them in acting school.

  • Jewels Vern, your comment reminds me of something I read about Omar Sharif, when he was filming the movie DR. ZHIVAGO...all those years ago, 1965 I think:
His housekeeper said that all during the filming, he behaved as a finer and better person than usual!

  • Internal contradiction.  If one were born without emotion he would not be capable of feeling bothered by it.

    Peace and long life.
