What do you understand on the 'sexy son hypothesis'?

    I had not heard about it until you mentioned it (which prompted me to search for some links).

    The basis of the hypothesis is that females are attracted to "hot" males (however that gets defined in a species) because mating with a "hot" male will produce "hot" male offspring, who will be attractive to other females of the species. If true, this would be an evolutionary advantage to the female selecting a "hot" males, since more of her genes will propogate through her "sexy sons."

    How applicable this hypothesis is to human mating is contested, because there is also substantial evidence humans select mates based upon socioeconomic desirablity. Mating with the genetically "hot" male profers no advantage if the offspring produced die due to lack of resources for care.

    That is true but for one human to survive (even in poverty) it is not to difficult to reach puberty (when males can biologically father children). This trend is popular in lower-income or lower-education communities. So I this hypothesis is applicable in these scenarios, which IRL translates to most of the population.
