Hillary, Hillary. Hillary, was she on her way to winning if not for Wiki Leaks and the same Comey who did not indict her?

Of all the nerve. She should bake him a cake.

  • NO .. Hillary lost because of Hillary. If anything, she should be looking at Bill. She was damaged from the get go. The rest of the issues just added to the drama that would cost her the election.
James Comey: Loretta Lynch's tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton was the turning point in the email investigation.

She was on her way to winning if the electorate had cared enough to vote. Apathy got Trump elected - a huge percentage of those who don't support him regarded his candidacy as a joke, thought Billary was a slam dunk so didn't bother to show up. Trump got his votes out.
The Electoral College system being gerrymandered to hell didn't help, either. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at May 4, 2017 8:49 AM MDT

Gerrymandering doesn't effect the general Presidential election.

  • The electoral college does.
It's rigged for the wealthy and is a totally defunct system that should be eliminated.

No. All of the states and DC are winner take all based on popular vote of the state with the exceptions of Maine and Nebraska. So unless you consider the entire state map gerrymandered.....it does not effect the general Presidential election.

Yes if we went by popular vote Clinton wins. But that is not the result of gerrymandering.
We will never go to popular vote. It puts too much power in a few states with a high population. Our founding fathers were brilliant in this system making sure the President much appeal to the entire country rather that a few more populous states which would create a tyranny.

  • I am not the one who said that the presidential elections were the result of gerrymandering.

Sorry...By using the electoral college, we are granting more power to some and less to the majority.
A person in Idaho does NOT have the right to wield more power with their vote than a person who resides in NYC.

Our founding fathers were slave owners and many only wanted landowners to have the privilege to vote.

The electoral college was the result of that inability to restrict voting thus giving power to rich, white landowners.
Those are the facts.  Our society today should not be held to the same rules and regulations developed over a century ago.

    We disagree on this.
If we went by popular vote...the would only bother with CA, NY, and TX. The system may change but it will never go to straight popular vote.

  • Yes...we disagree.  The presidental selection should be about the populace.

As an added bonus, the primaries should all be held on the same day like the general election and serious campaign reform requiring all candidates reveal who donated to them and limit the amount that they can spend, and force a constitutional amendment to outlaw "Citizen's United"

I don't think we should force all primaries to be the same day....as that hurts the non establishment candidates. Would just put more power into the donor class. If primaries were all the same day candidates like Sanders and Mike Huckabee, Obama etc would never have a chance.

I do agree, any money donated  ($1 to the limit of $2300??) to a politician or political party should be disclosed on the internet.  So we know who is paying who.

As far as Citizen's United....I believe any legal entity should be allowed have the freedom to speak about our elections.

I did not say they should boss us (unless they are literally our bosses)....I said since they are a legal entity and they pay taxes, they should have a voice.  This also applies to non-profits, and unions as well.

The system means that a vote from Wyoming is worth dozens of times more than a vote from California. That's not how democracy is supposed to work - one vote, one value. So dump tge "winner takes all" system and allocate seats on the basis of population.

  • Hillary generated as much excitement as having a decent bowel movement.
Sorry kids, the race was her to lose and she did. Look who she ran against.   Trump should have been the easiest person in the world to beat.
Shill's baggage, lack-luster performance & campaign, and neocon-moderate-republican positions sank her.

Did I forget to mention the DNC behaved like a bunch of Mafioso thugs with their thumbs on the scale?

I had a child psychology professor who opined that the high point of a 2-year old's day was a "good ****."

I suspect many still regard it with higher regard it---especially as they get older.  (lol) This post was edited by my2cents at May 4, 2017 8:59 AM MDT

Some cool and informative posts on this thread. Seems to me that Trump's managed to wriggle out of more than a few investigations and prosecutions.

Hillary lost because of her actions.

If she didn't have a private server, there would have been no FBI investigation for Comey to talk about.

If she, CNN, the DNC and her campaign people did not:
    1. Send hateful emails about their voters
    2. Work together to cheat against Sanders
    3. Give Clinton questions to debates ahead of time
    4. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Then there would not have been anything worthy of releasing on WikiLeaks.

Then we have her ignoring advise to campaign in the Rust Belt states. Attacking voters....etc

Just not how you win an election.
