How do you react when your joke questions get serious answers?

Happens quite a bit, perhaps the puns are too obtuse.

  • It happened to me a LOT on Answerbag. 9 times out of 10 when I explained it was a joke, it led to an argument because the person didn't understand that it was a joke. It was like they didn't even read what i was writing. After a few minutes of arguing, I'd end it with Jesus loves you, then just walk away.

    Sometimes I write, "Er, um, it was a joke!"

    Orher Other times I add onto the serious response with another joke or even sarcasm.

    I usually just ignore them. It happened more on AB. Some here ask figurative questions and I will answer literally. They usually don't like that.

    I disagree; I love your sense of humor.  If someone doesn't understand a joke or doesn't enjoy a joke, it's not always the joker who's at fault.
