Well the master of the wedding banquet at Cana certainly thought it was. According to John 2:9-10 he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
The bible disapproves of drunkenness (1corinthians 6:9,10)as a Jehovah's Witness I avoid abusing of alcohol. I personally stay away from drinking.

It doesn't take a bible scripture to know that being drunk is not good for you. But there is nothing in the bible that says we can't drink. We just have to know our limitations.
You asked the question, I merely gave my personal response. Maybe, if people respected the bible's counsel there wouldn't be so much rampant alcoholism across the globe.

I don't know if that is true or not because there are people who claim to follow the bible but still have a drinking problem, including JWs. Having an unhealthy addiction can happen to anyone. So if following bible counsel is not helping them, they should be encouraged to seek outside help.
OK, like you said yourself you don't know for a fact. I do know for a fact that respect for God's inspired word has been a protection for me from childhood, through my teen years, and into adulthood. I don't claim to be perfect by far, but it has been a strong shield for me as I have had to face the many obstacles life has presented. (Romans 7:21-25)

But Paul in his "first" letter to his student Timothy, at 5:23, encouraged the drinking of wine in these words, "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses."
