Honey, I remember when we got the FIRST TV invented practically. I think it was a Sylvania. It was black and white and then the color didn't come about until about 1960 or later. I am going from memory. But I remember that first TV from about 1954 or so.
I didn't live in a house with a color TV until around 1975/76. Our TV died and I wanted to get another 19" B/W but hubby wanted color. We got a 19" Zenith in a great big wooden box thay weighed a ton. We got CATV at the same time. I still had little interest in TV. That hasn't changed.
I remember getting our first black and white tv too.. I was amazed and thought it was the height of technology... my daughter saw a black and white cartoon a while ago and said, 'Oh, was that before they invented interesting.. ' Kids have noooo idea.
That'd be 1978. We had no money growing up ad TV's were a luxury. Our first TV was a 6" B/W Philco my uncle gave us in 1966. By 1969, when it got warm (about 45 minutes) the picture would turn into a small dot. It'd have to cool down before we could watch it again.
Seems to me that it was 'round about 1968 or 1969 because I remember (I think) the first Superbowl was in B&W, and I'm pretty sure I watched the Jets beat Baltimore in color. Not sure about Superbowl II whether it was color or not. Maybe. I got rid of TV. I hate 12 minutes of commercials whether in B&W OR color, and the programming is lame and insulting.
