I was in my car and miles from my house when I looked down at the passenger seat and saw that I had inadvertently brought the TV's remote control with me.
On another occasion, I returned home from a weekend getaway and found the front door to my apartment wide open. My next door neighbor confirmed that it had been that way since Friday evening when I had left. Amazingly, no one had gone inside, and not one stitch of my lowly crap was missing.
Once I was heating up a bowl of soup in the microwave, forgot all about it and left home for the day. When I returned home hours and hours later, I didn't use the microwave for a whole day and a half. Imagine my shock when I finally did open it to find a green film of mold growing over the top of the soup. *Footnote: I'm good for forgetting that I've put food in the microwave, whether at home or at work. I get distracted or I forget that I'm hungry or some other such weirdness. Sometimes it stays in so long that it's cold again by the time I get to it, I need to reheat it, but I often forget it the second time too. I've reheated food up to four times doing that.

Turn off the stove with my artichoke boiling on it. When I got home later that day, my apartment was on fire and the firemen were just finishing putting it out. It was many years ago and it was my first apartment. :+
