Well if it helps I never thought that.. I have never ever though of asians as one race.. there are so so so many differences... I have a Taiwanese friend, a Philippino friend, Indian friends, Pakistani friend, and I worked for both Chinese and Japanese people .. You truly couldn't find people more different... and they DO NOT all look the same at all.
I suspect most people's exposure to Asian music is traditional music. And this music being based in different scales than Western music tends to be often difficult to appreciate if one did not grow up in those cultures.
