Go to ER or wait until Monday?

I have a small cyst on my skin near chest area .. been there years. I've been told I didn't have to have it removed, but finally decided to have it done a few weeks ago; had the appoint. all set up and now out of the 4 years I've had it, it is red/infected. I'm on an antibiotic, so that helps but it is more sore and I'm unsure to go to ER to have it removed, or wait until I have my appointment on Monday. It is quite red now and I am torn what to do.

    Wait until Monday.

You never know who is going to do the operation at the Emergency Room.  Go to your own doctor.

$$$$ emergency rooms are notorious for making you sit and wait for hours, especially if it is crowded and there is not a big emergency.

    I would wait.

Bay, I didn't know it was hurting. Then you need to get it looked at right now.  GO then.  It's better than suffering.

    Please consider that.

  • I think you should get it looked at if in pain. I doubt anything would be done, besides getting you comfortable. This would give you time to get to your regular doctor on Monday.

I might be confused, but didn't you have a chest/stomach area pain recently and debated going to the ER? Maybe it wasn't you.

How long has it been since your last manicure? I need to know in order to determine which is more urgent.

Why didn't you say you had an oxygen tank? You'll be fine, get that mani but don't smoke in the salon. The techs don't like the smell.

Definitely the manicure.  You can't show up at the ER with shredded cuticles.

Your earlier post says you're going in, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in anyway.

The thing that concerns me is that you say you're already on antibiotics and you're still seeing signs of an infection. If you've been on antibiotics for a day or two at this point, you should be seeing improvements. If you're not, or it's actually getting worse, that's a sign the antibiotic isn't working, and you do need to see a doctor. In that case, the physician who prescribed your initial round of antibiotics should be called. He may be able to phone in a new prescription if he thinks it's warranted or can make suggestions on whether to go to the ER or not.

Thank you J :) I did go, as it was just SO red.. it was very irritated and hurting. My doctor had said if it became redder to go have it lanced, BUT ppl have told me in years' past its best to do anything with your own doc, not an ER one. So I WANTED to wait, but just really couldn't. I'm on a new antibiotic as well so ty for that tip too.. they changed it last night. I appreciate your thoughts and hope you are doing great!

If I showed you pics of my wife's arm (the inside) after four surgeries from a cat bite infection, you would probably go to the ER.
