If you went out for drinks in a party of five should you expect to fight off 9 attackers all by yourself?

Never go out with people who don't have your back.

If I go out for drinks ever, I can expect to wake up in rehab.

I would at least expect one to call the police. Or help remove me from the situation.
But generally you know if the people are fighters or not.

    I do not drink.

That is crazy. The security guard and the barman are the attackers. Beat him with brass knuckles.  But looks like there was a bar fight so his friends didn't just run off. They were busy fighting as well, possibly for their lifes.

Can't you hold em off whilst the 4 of us run for help?

Seriously no, but with 9 against 5, the 5 would likely have gotten the same result as the 1.

About 25 or so years ago on the night before new years the lady two doors down wanted to use my phone to call the the police on the neighbors between us because they had their radio blaring after midnight and it was keeping her sick baby awake. I had given them a jump earlier that day so I decided to just knock on their door and reason with them. (They were black, I'm white. I am not prejudice but I guess they were) One opened the door, looked at me and shut the door. I knocked again and at least 6 answered the door and one started saying you got a problem white boy and they all charged out beating and kicking me. The lady's brother in law tried to help. When I was able to get up, they had all left but one that was still on top of him until I was able to intervene. Better to call the police rather than get everyone beat up.

    O-uknow

I tried every which way to get this link to work but alas, I cannot.  I can, however, get enough of the story just in the written portion of this link.   American Student was beaten to death because he didn't buy enough drinks?  LOL  I'm not laughting, but I am shaking my head on this one.

The link you included suggests they were all fighting. It doesn't sound like he was beaten while his friends watched. They were all in it. That doesn't make the situation any better, but it changes the frame of the question.
