    I am ready now, but cannot afford it, and there isn't room for it in this old house. Guess I will just have to keep stepping up and down.

    That is a shame.  Once the legs go or the hips, it is very costly to make due with other avenues of aid.

    They take up very little space in your stairwell.  It's not an elevator.

    Any day now.. there are some days when it really hurts to go upstairs.. well with a huge bucket of water and a watering can to go clean the fish tanks.. by the 4th one it can get hard to get up the stairs..  I wonder if the water for the fish tank cleaning would slop about too much on a stair lift?

    I've had both knees replaced......no stair lift for me.   I live in a two-story house and intend to always live in a two-story.  It's my preference.
