By Subtler do you mean showing thoughts with expressions or great emotion? Because the only scene I can think of in which I could tell what an actor was thinking by just her emotion was a scene from the movie "Out of the furnace" when Christian Bale's character returns after being in prison to find out that things have changed and the emotional scene between him and Zoe Saldana is very powerful and I feel like the audience can see what he's thinking and feel what she's feeling regardless of the dialogue. "Herman's Head" - - he had about four 'people/personality traits in his head' and they all talked to each other. You can sort of pick up the premise from the show's opening.
It's not very subtle, ha!

I'm unsure, Slartibartfast.. I didn't watch the show regularly. And if you mean "Bart Simpson's" sister, I'm really unsure, ha! :) I did look up the entire cast and crew of the series' three-seasons run and no "Lisa Simpson" appeared. (That's when it hit me that it may have been Bart's sister whom you meant. And maybe a cartoon character wouldn't get an actual credit for appearing.) But, based upon the list I saw, this show had LOTS of guest stars!
I think Truthseeker helped me out there - - yes, Yeardley (Yardley?) Smith, the voice of "Lisa," was indeed on the show! She was hilarious in the show to me! :) It simply missed my head that Smith did Lisa's voice.
I think Slartibartfast is referring to Yeardly Smith who was on Herman's head and also does the voice of Lisa Simpson on the the Simpsons. From the clip I see that Hank Azaria was also on that show and he does many of the voices on the Simpsons as well.
