Wyndham is one of my faves. Dated now, but still hugely entertaining. The Chrysalids and The Kraken Wakes were brilliant, and his The Midwich Cuckoos was later dramatized as The Village of the Damned.

Ditto on zombies, except Shaun of the Deadwhich was hilarious. Some vampire stuff was mildly entertaining, until Stephanie Meyer killed the genre stone dead with her sparkly gay ones.
