    Gay still means happy.  I make a point of using it in the correct context.   The homosexual meaning is an additional meaning.  We shouldn't, in my opinion, allow words to be hijacked to the exclusive use of the hijacker.

  • It meant more along the lines of "affirm". One could say "I protest my innocence", meaning that one affirms it and maintains it. Now it would seem to mean you object to your own innocence.
