Creating Religion in all its world wide guises was one of the cleverest things man did to control the uneducated masses of the word .... it also worked far better then ever imaginable ...... A slight amendment to the rules ,ie killing all disbelievers or those gifted with common sense and bingo....religion became established....
It is so illogical NJ. We all have the right to worship where we choose, believe what we choose and live the life that we choose. Well within reason. I have no problem with anyone's religion and I hope they have no problem with mine. But I don't want any religion to manifest itself in legislation INCLUDING MINE. How is that a good thing for everyone? We have freedom to worship as we choose or not to worship at all. Where is it written that whatever religion politicians espouse should be incorporated into legislation affecting everyone? Thank you for your thoughtful reply m'dear! :)

We're there. Once Doofus Donny, the Dotard, became prez he brought that with him. He does all the thinking for everyone since his worshippers believe all knowledge resides in him as does all truth! SIGH. Thank you for your reply.
We have both. I have the freedom to worship as I choose. Others have the freedom to worship how they choose even if they choose not to worship. Others do not have the right to tell me that I cannot worship in front of them....and I do not have the right to force them to participate in my worship.
And the government should not be telling any of us how to worship or force any to participate in anything they disagree with.
I object to any religious views being manifested in legislation INCLUDING MINE. Religious pols are constantly trying to FORCE their views on the rest of us by making what they want that comports with their beliefs into LAW. I say bullsh** to that! Thank you for your reply m2c and Happy Sunday. Do you agree?
Would that include omitting such religious views as "Thou shall not kill", and "Thou shall not steal" and "Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor"? I can see where such "views" are harmful to a society . . .
Everyone is free to accept or reject God. There is much to fear from legislation based on freedom "FROM" religion. Sounds like the very tool required to put persons of faith out of business altogether. And yes it actually would be used in that manner. The really beautiful thing about this debate is the fact that God is ultimately in control regardless of man's foolish and foolhardy predilections.
You are conflating WHAT people want with WHY people want it. WHAT is in the legislation matters. WHY people hold those views is irrelevant.
Just because religious people have religious reasoning for a proposed piece of legislation, doesn't mean secular people don't support it for different reasons. Both secular people and religious people can agree that murder is wrong. If you ask them why it's wrong, you'll get 2 different answers. The religious view it as a violation of God's laws. Secular people view it as something that should be prohibited because it has a net negative effect on society.
If the left want freedom FROM others it should vote for a more individualistic society where government power is very limited and decentralized. Yet the left constantly support centralization and globalization. The left has no intention of giving anyone freedom FROM the left, does it?
Politics is pushing one's views on other people. As always the left thinks its sh*t smells sweeter than most.

Shouldn't freedom of religion INCLUDE freedom from religion? Why should any legislation be based on religion?
There was a nation state which had its [religion based] laws but allowed other communities living within its jurisdiction to have their own religious laws. So if two people wanted a dispute between them to be settled they would be asked to choose the court they would like to judge on their case.
That was a desert people who formed a nation state led by Mohammed fourteen hundred years ago. One would have thought fourteen hundred years on society would have been far more enlightened and accommodating of differences. Instead, almost everywhere you look, you have one ruling group of people imposing its laws on all those who live within its jurisdiction irrespective of what religion, or none, they belong to.
