Between my very strong sense of direction/orientation and my strong resistance to the effects of alcohol (and other drugs), it would take some serious work to put me in that situation.

I've only blacked out once and it was during the day, so can't say I've experienced that.

I drank alcoholically for over a decade.  It took me another one to free myself from it and the WHAT DID I DO LAST NIGHT? syndrome.  I would spend my mornings at work in law firms in Chicago doing my job and  making phone calls to my friends while doing my job in total fear of what I was going to hear back from them.  That was my life. 

GOD I cannot believe I did that. 

But, yes, I have woken up more than 50 times and more than 100 times saying that.   I am free.   Thank God.  I never have to do that one ever again. 

Repeatedly when my kids were newborns. I'd wake up on the sofa or on the floor in their room or something. Probably not at all what you meant, but it's still weird when you have to try to piece the night together to remember why you aren't in your own bed.
