While living in Indonesia I tried to learn the language and failed miserably. I had bought a isolated but not remote beach, I built a couple of houses there, one to live in and one to rent to tourists/visitors, the problem was that any foreign visitor used English as a common language and the local visitors were mainly young people wanting to improve their English, that kind of limited my chances to use bahasa Indonesia.

In elementary school, they tried to get us to learn French. We resisted and they stopped. Merci!

  • Spanish, French, Polish, and Russian.  The only 2nd  languages I ever had even a slight amount of success with was German and ASL.

It just never gels together for me no matter how hard  I tried.

Yes. Portuguese.  I felt too shy to speak out loud in class.  I was very young.  I dropped out of the class but my husband and his dad continued to completion.  They learned nothing either but subjected themselves to the torture. • "Spanish" ... if you speak Spanish to a Mexican they look at you kinda weird.  So I stopped practicing.
