Does "progress" always lead to more complexity or can it result in less? When and how?

    Example;  When I was in school, 'computer science' class was in a big room with this huge computer all over the place with reels of tape.  Today, you have much more computer 'power' in a hand held device. That is progress.

    It seems most of the advancements in technology make life for the better, easier, and in less time. I like to save time, we have so little of it while we are here.
