  • Almost spelled it right: onomatopoeia!

Everyone knows words like "crash, bang, zoom", but some others that are probably onomatopoeia in origin: barf, laugh, cough, chatter

    "Sizzle?"

I find "onomatopoeia" possibly the silliest word ever invented. It's definitely the most difficult word for me to try to spell. (Hey, to make the word even better, let's add some more vowels to the word! Ha! Why does that word demand such a surplus of vowels? Ha!)

feisty - What we now call a fart used to be called a feist. A dog might be unfriendly because it was poorly fed, leading to intestinal gas, leading to a feisty manner.

kludge - Soldiers pass the time making up long stories about the sailor whose specialty is kludge making. He builds an elaborate device and then tips it into the ocean: KLUDGE!
