  • On to something? The former president was a master practitioner of divisiveness. One of the prime goals of his administration was class warfare. Widening  the economic and racial divide by fomenting distrust was one of his goals and he succeeded marvelously.

Since when did any politician campaign for elected office without dividing people between those who would post a ballot for him/her and those who would not? Cute quote, but a failed premise.

Obama presented a choice to a group of people known as voters.  Providing a choice is not dividing the people.  Premise validated.

So are you saying, Tom, that Barack Obama is the only politician who has not divided people?

My answer was restricted to what Obama said.

Happy Birthday, by the way.  A special humidor is on its way so those tilde last way longer than their expected lifetime.

First of all the statement itself is an outright philosophical lie. Just the opposite is true. And Obummer didn't come up with it. He only utilized it to the max.  Then he just twisted the meaning 180-degrees in an effort to keep the damage he did to the the US from being undone. The only thing that amazes me is that supposedly well educated lefties (you lefties DID study the Classics, didn't you?) don't see that and continue to believe in that POS.

By the way, the phrase is dīvide et īmpera from the days of ancient Greece and Macedonia. It means divide and rule, or divide and conquer. If there are warring factions amongst the population to be ruled (and by ruled, I mean pillaged) they become too busy with each other to be aware of the malfeasance of their leadership. That's EXACTLY how Obummer pulled of his incompetent Presidency.

It seems your understanding of the phrase dīvide et īmpera is the "outright philosophical lie" here.  The phrase means to divide sufficiently so that there is no majority to oppose you.

Dīvide et īmpera means "gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy."  I don't see how that phrase is applicable here.

Plus, you are twisting Obama's comment 180 degrees---which means you changed his meaning.

About the meaning of dīvide et īmpera you're partially correct. But one can still have a majority that can be distracted by a minor faction or two. Have a look at an article that may be within your range of understanding.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divide_and_rule

And I didn't change the meaning of what Obummer said; you're attempting (very poorly, I might add) to change the meaning of what dīvide et īmpera means. Obummer clearly said that one will not be able to govern a divided people when that Greek phrase (and above all else history itself) clearly says otherwise.

    Nice try though . . .

That is funny coming from a former President who used identity politics such as race,  class, gender and every other way they could divide us to win his election.

No, he's just a hypocritical POS. The left feeds on division. Its entire M.O. relies on convincing different groups they are oppressed and need the government to rescue them.

The duty of a leader is to stand for truth and justice. Principles should not be compromised for unity's sake.

The left are morally bankrupt. Western civilization will be united when the left realize how disgusting they are and repent.
