I ended up liking that film way more than I thought I would. Actress Gena Rowlands blew me away playing the lead woman later in years. She added such realism and grit for me. :)
Heart and Raitt -- both bands/singers I've liked. :)
Of those two, I've only seen "It's a Wonderful Life." I like it quite a lot. :)
The strongest scene to me is toward the beginning of the movie when the Jimmy Stewart character, as a young boy, PLOT SPOILER!!!
works in the pharmacist's drug store and the pharmacist goofs on a customer's drug prescription and young Jimmy character catches the mistake. And the pharmacist starts hitting the boy and the boy is crying and then the pharmacist starts to hug the boy when he realizes his own mistake -- or something like that. The young actor portraying young Jimmy Stewart's character is amazing in that scene to me.
The most moving part of the film.......a mistake made through the grief of learning his son had died and he needed a whipping block to vent his anger on..... It's a wonderful wonderful film that was perfectly cast....so many parts of the film hit home really hard .....the film really changed how I felt about many things after.... My dad is a big man and it effects him the same as me every time we watch it......
Its a big hit with my whole family ...
You really need to watch Captains Coragous.......but only the Spence Tracy version......it's also the most wonderful film and right on par with wonderful life....it's B&W as welll
I think all my family have copies of it......it gets brought out every Christmas for all my nieces and nephews to watch......it's a thousand times better than all the violent horrible films being made nowadays...... Have you seen The Quiet Man with John Wayne ?
Sorry so late -- no, I haven't seen that one. For some reason, I'm not a John Wayne fan at all.

I've heard about that movie for a long time. I should watch it, yes. I know Wayne has gotten great accolades for his performance in it. Darn, I've not been watching movies hardly at all anymore.
I just realized you are the only one to answer my question thus far. :)
You mentioned "The Notebook" - - have you seen "The Nightmare Before Christmas"? Cool movie to me, like I already said in my question/statement. :)

Another oldie I can't watch the end of is How Green was my Vallley ....Walter Pidgeon ....such a brilliant film....
Random Harvest as well
Hobsons Choice ....B/W with Charles Lawton....
Great Expectations ,with John Mills ....
Our parents forced us to watch them all........very clever my parents...
I can't stand or watch stupid modern violent films.....
I have seen "The Notebook." I made a passing, easy-to-miss reference to it in the first comment I made to your answer. :) I love Gena Rowlands in the movie particularly.
"How Green Was my Valley - - - - my goodness! One of the most depressing movies I've seen! But very good! I saw it when I was pretty young -- I just remember how sad it was.
That's the only one I've seen of the ones you've just listed. :)

I watched wonderful life last Saturday again....had a day in bed with a sore throat.....had tears running down my face watching that scene again....lol
I think I've seen "It's a Wonderful Life" once or twice- - but it's that scene that stays with me the most, yes! Everything about it works for me! I give credit to that young actor portraying young Jimmy Stewart's character! :)
