Mostly content Rosie ,that is to say until one ventures out anywhere in a vehicle......go shopping in nearly any shopping center, large food supermarket and park longer the one and a half hours and they fine you up to £ 120 ....
Drive anywhere in England and do 2/3 miles an hours ove the limit and God help you with the police...Lee are the most spied upon country in the world....with one of the most corrupt police forces....

Drive like a half wit anywhere ....weave in and out of traffic dangerously ,drive aggressively and you get away Scot free......

Cameras are for catching speeders and for parking offensive's....nothing else in England...

WHAT? You are limited to 1-1/2 hours and if you don't leave you are FINED?  Geez we have parking meters and as long as you feed them periodically you can park all day!  Over here our cops are not so strict about speeding.. I often go 5 miles above the posted speed limit and I have NEVER been stopped for it. I did read years ago about cameras being installed in downtown areas in England. I thought it was to help keep people safe from purse snatchers or muggers. It's to catch them speeding? Geez that's a shock. You know I'm an Anglophile and I ALWAYS think of Brits as being logical, gentle, genteel, sensible. I know your police are not armed usually. Our cops kill unarmed young black men as a matter of course. SIGH. Another assumption smashed to smithereens. On the other hand your country has suffered through many terrorist attacks so maybe cameras could help with that. I don't know how much surveillance is needed to keep us safe. Invasion of privacy vs being kept safe. Where is that line? Here comes another question. Thank you for your reply NJ! :)

Even small shops fine their own shoppers for parking on their land if they park over the allotted time....it's gone country wide mostly......more so if there are other shops nearby with no parking facilities or very limited spaces....

The M11. Motorway that comes into East London from Cambridge ....a mile from the end of the motorway the speed reduces to 50 MPH ...There sits the most profitable camera in England.....it takes around 3 million pounds a year....never once gas it cault a dangerous driver........countless thousand who are just over the speed limit....

cameras as do assist catching terrorist .....but they are abused more by the police and government than they care to admit.....
Local councils patrol the streets in small camera vehicles looking for badly parked vehicles......some might have one tiny part of a tyre on a verge or pavement......they then either steal the vehicle away to a compound and charge anything up to £1000 pounds to get it back....some times it's more if it's not collected on the same day.....daily parking fees can be £60-70 a day up wards.......

English police are no different to american ...... They burst in to a a child's bedroom wearing full body armour...and shot dead a four year old boy sleeping in his bed.......it happened in Liverpool......the boys name was John Stonehouse ......he was never reprimanded and most likely became a hero with his chums..

there are so many other cases.....Harry Stanley ....65 I think.....walking home from a pub in east London.....carrying a plastic shopping bag.........two policemen in full body armour shot him in the head and the other shot him in his hand.....they should have been imprissoned ......but the police force threatened to strike so Blair and the government let them off....
