I recommend martial arts for anybody. You don't have to be big, you don't have to be strong, you don't have to be fast. Knowledge is power. Good for the mind and the body. And when someone attempts to end your misery, you will be capable of ending their misery instead because you will know what to do.
I'm going to try Brazilian Jiu Juitsu after I get in better shape in the new year. It's a mixture of judo, grappling, and submissions. predominantly groundwork. I'm ready for hardwork. I'm ready to be schooled. I'm ready to have my face smashed against the mat in order to get better. I can do this.
I've found that relying on another person to satisfy such a need in one's self, like ending misery, is unworkable for both involved.
In general, I believe, no, a person cannot end your misery -- only you can do that. But, yes, indeed, there are most likely people around you who would be willing to help you work through to help you. And don't rule out professional help. I wish you the best! Be Well ~ :)
