A worldwide study was conducted to ascertain which musical instrument was played by the largest number of people throughout history.

Which one do you think it is?  (This refers only to accomplished persons playing it very well, not to novices, hobbyists or amateurs.)

  • Counting all the amateurs and wannabes it would have to be guitar, but if we're only talking about people who are actually good at their instrument, I would guess piano.
