Have you ever seen either of your parents weep because you responded rudely to their well meant advice about your personal life?

No.  But, in all fairness, they never offered me well meant advice.

  • Would you have liked it if they did?

That's a really hard question for me to answer Nellie.  My childhood wasn't typical.  Knowing them the way I did,  I probably would not have liked their giving me advice, since they each didn't live their lives in the most responsible way.  They weren't very good parents.

If getting my fiancée pregnant counts as "responding rudely", then yes.

Their well-meant advice was to abstain. I got her pregnant, mum cried.

Never ever weeped , but my mum had a certain disparaging look that stoped me in my track and made me realize that I'd stepped over the mark yet again.....I'd then give my parents a bit of respite before returning to normal again.......

    :)

Never seen it happen, so I hope I never caused it. But I have wept from the advice they gave me, if that counts ;)

Honor thy Mother and thy Father.

There is a reason for that commandment.

If you don't, you have made them cry.

I would rather die than make my mom or dad cry.

Listen and answer sweetly and softly.    And try and keep your life out of their faces.

You know Neelie, come to think of it, No.  We were always taught respect your elders and most definitely respect your parents.  What they said, GOES.  Regardless.
Almost all the time they laid down the law, it was for our own safety.  It wasn't to make our lives miserable.  They loved us so much, they wanted to do everything in their power to make sure they did.
I will say, however, in my own defense, they made some mistakes along the way.  I did too.  We don't come with handbooks.  I am very different from sister who is absolutely perfect in my book.
I know there was pain and anguish but that comes with all growing and learning experiences of life.
