I have a friend who spends much time working in animal shelters to get animals good homes. In what charitable causes do you participate?

Ever hear of Ronald McDonald Houses? When I worked for a couple who owned some McDonald's Restaurants that was the charity we all worked on behalf of and gave time to outside the office. An excellent cause which we will always support. I guess kids and animals will ALWAYS need a lot of help. Others do too. You choose what you do charity-wise because?

    I have a weird 'charity'. Not really a charity but encouragement to raise funds for poor motorcycle racers like I was back in the 70s. Always broke. The only racers who made a living were the top ten in the nation. So the rest of us had to scrimp to get by. So I have been pushing on the sanctioning organizations to raise the race purses.  I've been writing e-mails to them. I don't get any direct response from these organizations, but there have been some increases seen for next year----- 2 races will have an extra $4000 divided amongst the participants for traveling expenses. Harley Davidson will now have a contingency program exceeding a half million dollars. Wow.

    I thought 'wow' before I saw your wow bh. Honest. I think that's great! You know Billie Jean King did the very same thing for women's tennis. Others have done similar things in the sports in which they have participated and improved them tremendously for everyone. I think that isn't weird at all m'dear. You race motorcyles or did. Of course that is the sport you favor. Two of our sons own motorcycles. A 3rd one did but had to give it up. They don't race them but they are definitely devotees. The one who lives in northern Nevada has 2 or 3 motorcycles. His fiancee is going to get her own as well. I think participating in any sport is costly...some more than others. Being better-compensated will attract more folks. Good Job! Oh my stepfather used to ride his Harley from L.A. to Long Beach each day for work. This was many decades ago. He definitely was a Harley Guy! Thank you for your reply. See. It isn't weird. Or if it is I don't see it that way! :)

    Yep I am that! In fact when Jim and I first met we were visiting his youngest son and Jim took me on a short ride around the neighborhood on Gary's motorcycle. We both wore helmets and you're gonna laugh bh. Every time Jim stopped our helmets bumped! I guess my head just went forward each time. I got a headache. Oh geez I'm laughing now! How do you avoid bumping helmet heads when two ride on a motorcycle? Anyway it was kinda fun but mostly kinda scary. Jim used to have a motorcycle so he took some turns leaning over a bit and I thought we might fall. That was my one and only first-hand experience riding a motorcycle. I think I told you my stepfather had a Harley and used to ride it to to work? What I didn't tell you is the terrible accident he had on it. He was riding  to work one early morning at dawn on the freeway. He used to work at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards. What he could not see what that a VW ahead of him lost a wheel and the car in front of him veered out of the way and the wheel caused him to flip and crash. He was knocked unconscious but was wearing a helmet. He was taken to an emergency room and stabilized. Then he was being transferred to Kaiser. He remained unconscious but his vital signs looked OK. Here's where the real tragedy occurred. On the way to Kaiser in the ambulance WITHOUT A HELMET the ambulance crashed into a mail truck I believe! I'm not kidding. He was on a gurney (sp?) inside and it smashed against the wall and his head hit hard unprotected. They got him to the hospital but by then much damage had occurred. There was a lawsuit of course but he was damaged beyond repair and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair incontinent and unable to talk. Sorry for the downer. So  because of that motorccyles scare me and I'd have preferred that the boys never bought them or rode them. Gary has had a couple of accidents..the last one he broke his collarbone.  Sorry for the TMI. Just wanted you to get the whole picture from a motorcycle momma point of view!
