When I was a scout we camped at camp Miakonda Boy scout reservation here near Toledo. As a Scout leader we took our Scouts once a year to Camp Frontier near Pioneer, OH at the OH, MI and IN border.
I had a feeling you were a scout. My late husband was a scout too. He still had all his little honor badges since he was ten to prove it. You sound like you did a lot of traveling in your troop. ;O
We once went to Point Pelee in Canada. It's the point of land jutting out into Lake Erie. Camp Frontier is about 50 miles away. Some of the scouts rode their bikes there.
Oy. Boy Scout camp in northern Arizona. Ride in the back of an army truck for 300 miles. Lake clogged with stumps. Nobody had a clear idea what "Boy Scout" was supposed to mean back then, except something about sleeping on the ground.
Yes. I went to music summer camp with the Church choir every summer for 10 days. When I was old enough I went as a counselor to the YWCA summer camp two weeks at the time. One summer I did two two-week sessions. My own kids loved summer camp and we could afford it so they always spent about a month at camp. It's a great experience. I just mailed a check today to help a kid go to space camp. That is very popular in the South, and pricey.
I was sent to Christian camp through my church four summers in a row. It was only for a week, but I did have a good time. We slept in cabins and had a giant pool to swim in. I remember lots of hikes and other outdoor activities. My little luxury was having a little transistor radio and an earplug to help me sleep at night.
