I totally agree. Thank you for answering. I do wonder why people just don't call it that? It can't be any worse for you than a bologna sandwich. One is flat and one is round. :) :)

I don't know if that is true or not. Being you, though, I'm going with you are 100% right. Would we then call it, " chien-chaud ?" Is it one in the same? Thanks JakobA :) :)
Of course it is. You know my home base is California and taxes are coming up soon. I'm looking to right off all the hot dogs I've bought for my co-workers who make dog food, of course. :) Big winks and smiles ;) :D!
A hot dog is a piece of meat. It is not a sandwich until it is put between bread of some sort, and even then *I* personally don't think something is a sandwich until there are condiments.
The hot dog was invented by a snack peddler at baseball games in Boston. He encountered a new product called Vienna sausage, made with no skin, and he ordered his baker to design a bun specifically to hold it. He named it the dachshund sandwich. He then went through the stands calling "Get your red hot dachshund sandwiches."
And that is why some people call them red hots and some call them hot dogs.
