Once climbed in the window of a rented house. The room was locked though, so I had to put some paper under the door and knock the key out of the keyhole on the other side and pull it under the door.
I always carry extra keys. These days, I have several house keys hidden outside in the woods. But since I carry extra keys with me, I haven't needed the woodland keys for many years.
About a year ago, my wife had a security system installed that came with a battery operated front door lock with a numeric keypad.
The back door has one of those locks that can be opened by turning the inside knob, but remains locked on the outside and needs a key to get back in.
I took my dog out into the back yard and found I could not re-enter through the back door---so I just walked around to the front door and entered the combination and walked in.
I was always forgetting my key during sophomore year of college, but I also knew that my roommates never remembered to lock the sliding door at the back patio, so I could usually get in that way.
I had to crawl in through a downstairs window because my baby locked the storm door when I went out IN MY GOWN to grab the Sunday paper. At the glass door I tried to get her to turn the lever the other way (it was a bolt) but she just kept saying mama mama mama. Thank goodness one of the windows was unlocked. This happened to me twice...very similar experiences.
