  • Without the use of your hands, can you first get yourself on your knees (as in church), then on one knee (like your proposing), and then raise yourself from this position? I can if I push down on my "horizontal" thigh near its knee. But it does pain somewhat, I admit.

  • My party trick is to squat---extend one leg out in front while keeping it off the ground---once balanced---slowly stand up using only the leg I'm squatting on, I'v never seen anyone else do it before. Standing up from a sitting position, easy

  • "...slowly stand up using only the leg I'm squatting on, ..."
Is the other leg kept extended and off the ground? If so, you must be really very strong, austrans.

Guess what? It worked! I just came from the gym, and my original plan was to try this before I began the workout, but the session was already starting as I arrived. Once it finished, I tried the sit-down/stand-up, and I was able to do it, unlike when I tried at home last night. Of course, I had warmed up, stretched out, exercised, etc, so I was more limber.
I still couldn't do the knee thing as you described above, but I twisted one leg around far to my side, used the side of my knee, rose up from there using thigh, butt and back muscles, then up to fill standing height.

  • Yes it is extended, all of my hobby & fitness training, be it running, bike riding, hiking, happens to be based around leg strengthening. Down side is that legs don't look very lady like, up side is good for controlling partner, if you know what I mean ;-)

Pretty easily. Just sit Indian style and push yourself up with your legs. I'm 18.

  • i shall do my best. =) and yes, we do need to work to preserve our muscle mass at and around our age. plus it's so good for us, mentally. i know it makes me sleep better and feel more calm during waking hours. it's good stuff. glad i could inspire, for lack of a better word. keep on keeping on!

I'm one of those people who finds women with well-toned legs extremely attractive, very lady-like indeed.

  • Didn't think of it.

Tried your suggestion, but at 44 the knees hurt and one thigh felt quite a strain.
