    It means the sam in German, a ghost the makes noise.
    You rarly need it in conversation, so I would suggest 'Bitte' as a more useful first word to learn.

    It's as good as any other word. Just keep your hands down. You can be arrested for waving your hand the wrong way.

    I got that advice when I took a language class. German does not have nasty words like English, so they use hand gestures to insult each other.

    Not correct, but unfortunately I would have to go all grammar-nazi to explain the differense. long and tedious.

    Germans do have insulting words. Sweinhund, ... - Just not as many as Americans have.
    And Americans do have insulting gestures. 'the finger', ... - Just not as many as Gernans have.
    And German does not have an 'i' before 'e' ecept after 'c' rule :) it is 'nein', not 'nien'

    And the word is difference, you misspelled it.  I forgive you, because you speak at least two languages and I speak but one.  So, I am impressed
