Hahaha. I used to have much the same thought when I used to listen to mainstream radio. I then discovered small, college time radio that had no set agenda.
Abba's Dancing Queen is definitely a song I would skip immediately because of how much it has been played in 4 decades.
Hi PeaPod - - I should add what I told Element 99. I really like pretty much any ABBA song, including "Dancing Queen," even though it gets overplayed in my opinion. :)
It's probably the only song I don't care for tbh, just because it got so overplayed. I really like a lot of their other stuff, including some of their more serious ballads.
I don't know if you followed any of them into a solo career, but Frida had this in the early 80s. It was a huge video hit in the day. I loved her voice and her look on this.
I really NEVER hear that one on the radio! :) I'm a fan of the group -- I do tend to like pretty much anything by them, even "Dancing Queen," overplayed as it is. :)
In Phoenix, and I suppose in other markets too, the teenybopper stations would switch to old fart music in the evening so grownup commuters would not notice what the teens were listening to. Unfortunately, the djs had no clear idea what the old farts were listening to, so they tended to play records that were already known to be safe. The end effect was as if the station only owned a half dozen records. But at least the old farts never complained.
I think I actually heard that song on the radio once but it was when I was on my honeymoon in Europe. Radio stations in other countries seem to play more stuff than American radio stations but when I had my last job the manager told us which radio station we had to hear in the office. It was pretty lame because we didn't need to look at the clock, basically knew what time it was by which song they were playing.
"Yes indeed!" In 1960, Jan & Dean's "White Tennis Sneakers" was released and in all my years of listening to Oldies But Goodies, on the radio, I've only heard it once. It didn't make the Top Ten Hits List, but did chart at #12. Anyway, I'm not sure why it bothered me so much, over the years, but it did. :)

I find white tennis sneakers erotic - - on men. Not knowing this song, and by the title only, I was hoping that might sing about their own sneakers. Oh, well. Ha! :)
oh god yes. i haven’t listened to the radio in years for that very reason. they just seem to play the same ~50 songs constantly, usually some much more than others. it’s a nightmare. i subscribe to spotify instead.
