Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Slave owners cheered when Lincoln was assassinated. They hated him. Why did people cheer when JFK was assassinated? If old enough did you?
Well I was only six years old and I don't remember any cheering but later on I met people who had regarded Kennedy as a rich playboy incompetently playing with the country. Whose father had bought him the presidency. I know many people felt they could never trust him because he'd never had to really work for a living.
I remember my classmates in the 5th grade were carrying Nixon/Kennedy campaign signs during recess for the election. No one cheered for the assasination.
I had an uncle who was Republican who said he was so very happy that Kennedy was murdered. I was appalled and devastated and in tears for years. I was not the only one. Why was he so hated by some Republicans? He didn't fight for civil rights like Johnson nor did he free the slaves like Lincoln. Strange. I just thought of another question. You'll know it when you see it bh. Thank you for your reply! :)
