Some people object to the use of plural pronouns in this type of situation on the grounds that it’s ungrammatical. In fact, the use of plural pronouns to refer back to a singular subject isn’t new: it represents a revival of a practice dating from the 16th century. It’s increasingly common in current English and is now widely accepted both in speech and in writing.

Since my response was to an ancillary issue which was raised by one person and approved by another, the appropriate response was to directly address the two individuals involved.
That probably comes from a long history of tutoring individuals rather than teaching classes.
Dang Randy, I clicked and clicked on it and your reply is still posted---I guess it's just too complicated for me to try to use.
But I award prizes for first, second, and third. Stu Bee came in first, and then you concurred. I though separate acknowledgments were the least that I could do in this case.
I personally have avoided using "their" for years in such cases, but I have grown tired of the times when the grammatical structure requires more judgment than composing a response does.
But I admit, I may have inadvertently made a bargain with the devil.
Someone who is only slightly less pathetic than the twits who are then compelled to run out and buy the brand’s product.

I agree and the fact that there's something in the media about that family every single day is just too much. You'd think they were royalty the way every single thing they do is reported.
Excellent analogy. I thought perhaps we heard the last of this kind of BS with Paris Hilton,, but it appears she merely spawned others to become equally famous for doing nothing worthwhile.
I fear this is merely the top of the iceburg. Think how many sad cases idolize these overexposed trashy cretins and aspire to the same trajectory. The bar of “celebrity” can actually fall even further. Disturbing.
